"Those who decide to use leisure as a means of mental development, who love good music, good books, good pictures, good plays, good company, good conversation -- what are they? They are the happiest people in the world."

Leo Adler Grant Helps North Powder Library

A desk chair with arms that aren't broken and a book cart with wheels that roll may not seem like much to ask for, but for North Powder's small library these items were definitely on the wish list.

A generous grant from the Leo Adler Foundation made the wish list shorter this summer.  Librarian Nancy Free-Klein was able to purchase the cart, a new chair and a new computer.  Additionally, grant funds enabled the acquisition of some large print and audio books, plus magazine subscriptions including some in Spanish.

"We are just thrilled," said Free-Klein.  "I hope the community will stop in to see the changes."

August will be a great time to visit the library.  On the 16th from 10:00 to noon the final craft activity for the Claws, Paws, Scales and Tales Summer Reading program will be held.  On Saturday, August 19th, in conjunction with the North Powder Antique Car Show, the Library will hold a raffle ticket drawing for prizes donated by businesses and individuals in Union County.  Items include gift baskets, an outdoor lighting system and certificates for merchandise.  All proceeds go towards library programs and services.
