Elgin - Laura Ingalls Wilder
Presentation about the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder
A crowd gathered to learn more about Laura Ingalls Wilder, the woman and her life. Holly Kraus, a Laura Ingalls Wilder enthusiast and Library volunteer, shared about the life and times in the 1800's. Dressed in costume, Holly was able to broaden our knowledge of the types of activities that filled Laura's life. Those in attendance were able to use a slate and slate pencil, just like the one Laura used in school, and were also given a spelling test from the actual book Laura would have used as a teacher. Another great treat was to acutally hear Laura speak in an interview with a Librarian. We were also treated to fiddle music, just like "Pa" used to play. The perfect ending to this adventure was to enjoy a piece of gingerbread cake that Laura was famous for.
