Friendly Visitor Program to Transform
With the end of the Library District Project May 31st, the Friendly Visitor Program will transform from a distrist demonstration project to a voluntary service within the local libraries.
Services through the Friendly Visitor Program will continue through May.
The Friendly Visitor Program after May 31st will have it's most important piece continuing - it's volunteers.
As we look to the close of the program at the end of May, we will be encouraging our wonderful volunteers to work with their local library to continue visiting the elderly and disabled, and "bringing the library to the homebound".
The volunteers won't have the support of paid project staff, won't have the project office or phone number or email address, but the libraries are still there and the people needing the book deliveries are still there. It is our hope that the local libraries will continue to provide leadership and support for the volunteers.
One of the impacts of the district project ending will be losing the grant funding for the monthly purchase of large print and audiobooks for Elgin, Union and La Grande libraries.
